K-Town Saturday Ramblings

I live in a town called Kaiserslautern.  It’s a city in southwest Germany near the edge of the Palatinate Forest. The population is 100,000 with 50,000 of those people being American- mostly military. Kaiserslautern, or K-Town as it was coined in the 50's by Americans that had trouble pronouncing its name, has the largest population of Americans outside of the United States.

When people say, “I want to come visit you!” I always respond with, "Well if you come to Europe, just choose a city you actually want to visit and I’ll come there." Kaiserslautern is not someplace you write home about. It’s an average sort of city. It has homes, people, grocery stores, parks, construction, and restaurants just like any other city does. There’s not even a castle here! Dan recently pointed out.

My point is, Kaiserslautern is not this beautiful place you’re missing out on. But! If you do end up here, I will take you to the Japanese Gardens because it’s the most beautiful thing I’ve seen in this town! Plus, they have a beer garden.

  1. Beer Garden! (and a wine cellar or seller, too?)

  2. Technically, there ~is~ a castle here (Barbarossa's), but it is just the ruins next to the Rathaus :)

    1. Ha! Thank you for that! We walked past that last night and probably for the 5th time wondered out loud what it was. Great to know!
