Where To: Eat in Kaiserslautern

Living here now for 5 months, I’ve had the chance to try quite a few restaurants. I’ve realized that a handful of readers are from the area, so I thought I would highlight some of my favorites.

Spinnrådl is a traditional German restaurant right downtown. It’s a cozy restaurant with a great menu. The Flammkuchen here is amazing, as is the schnitzel. They also have an extensive wine list, reservations recommended.

Tamarillo Restaurant and Tapas Bar is perfect if you’d like a taste of Spain. They have a great full menu, but I like to stick with the tapas. With nearly 20 to choose from, you can’t go wrong. Try the Sangria!

Saigon Bistro is one of the top rated restaurants in Kaiserslautern. A Vietnamese restaurant with a great menu! My first time trying Pho, and it did not disappoint, plus it’s located right near the train station.

Bistro 21 is on the 21st floor of the Rathaus downtown. It’s a fusion restaurant with a super modern design. I wasn’t a huge fan of the food, but it’s a great place to go for a drink and the panoramic views!

Flammkuche Restaurant is perfect if, like me, you’ve become a huge fan of this Alsace pizza. They have a ton of different varieties, not to mention a big wood fire oven in the middle of the restaurant! It is a bit small, so reservations are recommended.

Papasote Mexican is good for satisfying your south of the border craving. While it’s definitely not the best in the world, it’s perfect for what it is. Plus, they have a great happy hour!

Restaurant Pizzeria Milano is right across from Papasote, both in the old train station. Their menu is extensive with great lunch specials. I am really starting to love the thin style pizza.

Sam Kullman’s Diner is great for a little taste of America. A traditional diner with sandwiches, burgers, salads and breakfast!

Interested in a low key dinner and drinks, try these places:
St. Martins (good menu, great drinks, good service, decent prices)
HannenFass (good location, delicious snacks, lots of beer, fun environment)
Brauhaus Am Market (large restaurant, great schnitzel choices, good beer- try the banana beer!)

What are your favorites? Do you have any recommendations for me? (Specifically a good doner spot… haven’t found my favorite yet!)
