Bostalsee, Nohfelden, Germany

When it’s still technically winter and the sun is shining and the weather is at least 50 Fahrenheit, it’s probably a law that you have to have an outdoor adventure.

Bostalsee is the largest lake in southwest Germany, or so they say to lure in tourists. Either way, Dan and I love water, especially when there is sunshine in the sky and a giant box of wine in my bag.

We drove the 40km to Bostalsee for a picnic and lakeside fun. The lake is 100% recreational and there were many others taking advantage of the rare German sunshine.

While there weren’t too many people on the water (expect for one brave wind surfer) there were quite a few picnicking, walking, biking, and lounging on the two manmade beaches.

We packed a lunch and sat along the water eating sandwiches and daydreaming about summertime. We then rented some bikes and leisurely took a 7km stroll around the lake.

It was a great, relaxing day and just fun to find these little gems so close to where we live. We can’t wait until the summer heat comes and we can more closely replicate being on an actual beach. Lake water will have to do.
