Yucca Flats Stroll in Palmer Park

Frank graduated from puppy class last week. (Graduation photo below). Dan and I have mixed reviews about it. It was ok at socializing him, but he would be more interested in the people giving him treats than playing with other dogs.

Needless to say, we were happy those classes were over. But I did want to find something else for him to do in order to interact with other dogs. I also wanted to find something for me where I could potentially meet new people, get active and explore Colorado Springs.

I found a meet up group that combined all those things! They have 2-3 events weekly that explore different walks and hikes throughout the Springs- usually places that don’t require leashes.

So I went to the first one. It was in Palmer Park, which I didn’t even know existed. It was less than a 10 minute drive to get there- and driving up there was awesome- a little mountain-y oasis in the city.

The trail we took was called Yucca Flats, where they don’t enforce leashes. It was an easy to moderate 2.5 mile hike.

Frank had a blast. I was a little worried about him because he’s a puppy and comes at dogs pretty excited, but he did great. He loved interacting with all the other dogs. He would run up and play with them, and then run back to check on me, then run up to play. It was great. Plus I was able to talk to some pretty great people and catch some great views!

Thank you to the organizer, Sandy, for the pictures!
