Kayaking at Pueblo Reservoir

For my birthday I wanted to do something different, something active, something outside. So my dad said he would take me kayaking. I have never been kayaking, but considering how obsessed I was with paddleboarding, I figured I would love it.

It had been raining quite a bit in the Springs the weekend before my birthday. On the actual day, it called for rain in the afternoon, but it was grey and overcast all morning. We were going to go kayaking at Prospect Lake in Memorial Park, which is right down the street. But when my dad looked into it, there was a FIFTY DOLLAR permit for EACH boat. Whaaaaaa?

So we decided to go to Pueblo Reservoir about an hour away. My parents have been here before and really like it.

Once we started driving south, the sun came out! Once we arrive at the reservoir it was over 90 degrees, but beautiful! We put the boats in the water and my dad made sure to put in a cooler of beers in his.

Just like paddleboarding, there was an immediate unstable wobbliness about the boat, but it's surprising how used to that feeling you become. Plus my dad said it's pretty difficult to flip the boats, especially in wake-less water.

So we starting rowing around the massive reservoir, in and out of coves. It is absolutely beautiful there! My dad said it's his favorite, even compared to Cherry Creek and some other more popular ones. I guess I'll have to find out for myself...

It was a really fun two hours and a great birthday memory!
